Book Highlight

Olivia Robertson wrote in the book "Fellowship of Isis Manuals: A Compendium":

“Ireland is one of the last bastions of true vision, and therefore a lighthouse for a new aeon.  The Goddess Tara, known in Eire and the Far East, is She who draws the stars down from the heavens to reach the mountains and hills.  Dana is She who brings light and love to the hearts of every creature.  Brighid is the sustainer of the Vestal Flame, the hearth fire that is our life, and provides the Well of Inspiration.  It is these three Goddesses that have appeared to me and communed with me while I was fully conscious:  Tara in 1946; Dana in 1952 and Brighid in 2000.

“I now realise that They came with especial intent:  for me to share what They brought to the earth.  From She who I called ‘The Silver Lady’, inspired the Noble Order of Tara, that we should fight for our environment.  Dana has brought forth the Druid Clan of Dana, for an awakening of our kindred souls in the realms of nature, through mystical vision.  Brighid has come last with an awakening awareness of sound:  sonics create the spiralling of life itself.  It was from Isis Herself, in shining White Spirit Form that gave me my vocation in 1946, and that led to my brother Lawrence, his wife Pamela, and myself to found the Fellowship of Isis in 1976."

From Dea, Rites & Mysteries of the Goddess

From Dea, Rites and Mysteries of the Goddess, by Olivia Robertson:

"The religion of the Goddess centres around the Hearth. Whether this be the inner sun flaming within the matrix of our earth, or the sun itself, this is the source of manifested life. Within the body of all mothers, whether Goddesses, women, female creatures that give birth to egg or seed, the inner fire is the Divine Centre. In this nucleus is our own heart's life, that heart whose rhythmic beating keeps us alive and sets moving the rhythmic Dance of Creation. This Heart-beat of the Cosmos sets moving all heart-beats, even the tiny pulse within a blade of grass. On the earthly level the heart brings life. On other levels it is Love. For the Heart exists on all levels. . .

"Though we respect great temples, a simple room or grove of trees form a Matrix that protects our altar fire. A shrine may be a psychic temple not made with hands. The Devotee, sitting in silent contemplation, even in a crowded room, may yet build in creative imagination a shrine that guards the privacy of the soul. For the Matrix is not only a womb or shell: it is also the individual aura. We carry our temples about us.

"Within the shrine is the resting place of Deity, the Altar. Made of stone or wood, the altar is the throne of Isis, Aset; and the Palladium, the casket of Athena. Here is the meeting place of Deity and Devotee. Here the Goddess or God manifest either through the Hierophant or through all the participants. The elements placed on the altar are an earthly focus where Deity may materialise through earth, air, fire and water; and through oil which represents the blending of the primal four. Any shelf or table in a room may be the altar, and any quarter or place between the compass points may be used. For each compass point is relevant to the Goddess. On the altar may be offered a stone, a pot plant, incense sticks and a cup of water. Through their hallowing by the Devotee, these are used as a focus for their own true being. The gem of life is in a stone: the divine breath is within smoke: the elixir of life shines through water. Every element, every atom, contains the spark needful for its transmutation.

"Through this realisation, the Devotee invokes Deity and through a simple touching of the hands, may awaken the life spark within each object. Earth protects: on another level it represents strength and stability. Fire brings vitality: it also in a greater sphere of being, typifies Love. Air symbolises Mind and Spirit and so must be free to move. Water is so receptive that it must be kept pure and calm, yet flowing. Otherwise, like unhealthy emotions, it may either rage in a storm, or stagnate. Though occult symbolism varies in different systems, the principle remains the same. Any object, however humble, is a key to its essential reality in greater spheres. The purpose of ritual is to strike a note on one level - even with bell, gong or sistrum, and so to awaken the same note on other octaves of being.

"When a shrine is awakened through its true keynote and colour, it begins as it were to hum like a well-tuned harp. It is the awareness of the Devotee that brings about this transformation. For the Deities respond to those who knock. They answer.  Those seekers who are ready for expansion of consciousness may ease the way to initiation. The Elemental Spirits, the Sidhe, Devis and Devas, will work in harmony with those who treat the elements with respect. No Spirits should be commanded even if this is possible: they come joyfully to those who do the Mothers' work."

Honor to Tiamat

Listen to Olivia Robertson invoking the Goddess Tiamat in a past rite:

Audio transcript (mp3 / 1:33 min / 1.4mb):
"We need the aid of Tiamat Who holds the Tablets of Fate, to gain Wisdom and Love through knowledge of the stars.  I offer incense to the She who is the Dragon Goddess of our Galaxy.  I invoke the Goddess Tiamat! Hear the words written on clay tablets of Babylon about the Creation:

'When in the height Heaven was not named,
And the earth beneath did not yet bear a name;
And Apsu the Primaeval Who begat them,
And Chaos, Tiamat, the Mother of them both -
Their waters were mingled together, and
No field was formed, no marsh was to be seen;
When of the Deities None had been called into being,
And None bore a name, and no destinies were ordained;
Then were created the Gods, all Goddesses;
Aeons were increased; and Tiamat was Mother of them all!'

"Thou Who art the Beginning of Creation, Mistress of Magic, Mighty Dragon, Mother of all, aid us in our search for Wisdom and for Love. For only from our own origin, the matriarchal Goddess, may we understand the Universe of which we are a part."

Photo comments by Minette Quick: "This chapel of the non-zodiac Stars is centre of our Temple Labyrinth. The main altar of the Goddess Ishtar of the 8-pointed star, Lady of 15, shows a 'Mirror of Hathor', which reflects the soul's dreams. Ishtar is painted on the surface and Her Lover, Tammuz, Shepherd of the Starry Flocks is shown above the mystic mirror. The Goddess Tiamat of Space is painted with outspread wings on the altar frontal."

Star Chapel

"The intention of the Fellowship is to unite the Divine Source, Love and Truth in harmony.  We try to unite these two Divine attributers in the Holy of Holies, the Star Chapel, with no outside walls.  Ishtar and Tammuz, Isis and Osiris, Vishnu and Lakshmi, Maria and Christ, bring this wholeness now fragmented on this earth.  We fight subjection, domination, exploitation of humans, animals, birds, fish, reptiles and insects of every species – all creatures of the Mother’s sacred elements."  Olivia Robertson

They worked together painstakingly to clear an ancient wine cellar in the basement of the Castle. The ceiling was designed by Lawrence to show many of the wonderful non-zodiac constellations such as the Polar Constellations, including Caer Arianrhod, her Pole Star home, and the Great Bear. There are Cygnus the Swan, the Ariadne Crown, Andromeda’s Sea Monster, Sirius, Orion & Cassiopeia. Having first painted the whole ceiling deep blue, Lawrence created cardboard stencils. These Olivia then used to paint the stars in gold."

The Tapestry of Life

"To find the Other is to find Oneself:
All Nature is expressed in one loved face."

"So says the Bard of the Druids in our Isis Wedding Rite. To unite with another soul is the goal of the Lover: through this devotion selfishness and loneliness fade away. When twin souls unite in Divine Union, it is through discovery of The Immortal Beloved that they find their own real selves. Such is the truth underlying the Egyptian myth of Isis and Osiris, perfect wife and husband. In classical Greece, Plato brought forth the ideal of twin souls divided and discovering reunion through love. Centuries later medieval troubadours travelled throughout Europe singing of fulfilment through the romantic devotion of lovers. Within our secret dreams, we have this knowledge in ourselves. But one is not for ever able to concentrate on one other person, excluding all others! To find the other is indeed to find oneself. But this very love is creative, and kindles a like flame in receptive hearts. Families become friendly. Children are drawn into incarnation. Friendship expands to include animals, birds, trees and flowers, in an ever widening circle. Through this increasing community, an elaborate interrelationship is woven; a tapestry of glowing colours and intricate design. Each new friendly connexion makes an additional knot in this tapestry of life."

Hallow our shrines

"Holiest of the Holy, great Goddess Isis, perpetual comfort of mankind, thou whose beautiful grace nourishes the whole world. Whose heart turns towards all those in sorrow and tribulation, as a mother's to her children, we invoke thy grace. Hallow our shrines with thy protecting wings that bringeth shade to the weary of heart, jubilation to the distressed and rest to sufferers. Bring vision and healing, thou who with thy breath bringeth the dead to life: thou friend of Thoth, bring us wisdom. As thou dist restore thy husband the God Osiris, bring us also thy everlasting love and life."

Hail Athena!

"We offer incense to thee, the Goddess Pallas Athena. Thou doth bear the Owl of Wisdom upon thy shoulder and wieldeth the Spear of Light. From thy Shield come the life-giving Medusa Rays, veiled from human sight. Bestow upon us power and the wisdom to use it well. Inspire our works of learning and of the arts!"

Art highlight: The Morrigan

Olivia Robertson wrote in "Urania":

"The Cauldron of Plenty is bestowed by Morrigan the Maid, called Badb the Crow. The Badb appears to heroes in all her youthful loveliness as the Washer by the Ford. And the Ford is through that river which is at the World's End in the West, for beyond it lies the realm of the Sidhe, called Tir na nOg, Land of everlasting youth. This country is invisible to mortal eye, and lies below, upon and above the mighty Western ocean that once overwhelmed Atlantis. Its bells may be heard from the deeps, and the sound of maidens singing entice sailors to cast themselves from their ships to seek lost beauty. And the purple mountains reach into the sky with rainbow shafts of light that are pathways to the stars. When in your wanderings, you may come upon the Badb by a Ford washing dust and blood from your earthly armour, know that your time has come to cross the river of death to the other realm of the Sidhe. But fear not: Her cauldron of Plenty holds the food and drink of immortality. The Divine Virgin is ever compassionate: for those in need the cauldron is never empty."

"To explore one’s own psychic centres not only may bring us spiritual awareness, but a relationship with our planets. Each is a power-house reflecting a harmonic of the Central Sun. The Alchemy of the Goddess Brigid extends one’s consciousness through the colour spectrum and musical octaves beyond this material world – yet embraces it. 'As Above, so Below.' Earth is a reflection of Heaven."

Temple Doors

"A spiral procession slowly and surely winding its way through a garden inwards towards a temple blends two spheres, the earthly and the psychic. After such a ceremony, the garden or field has a different, more psychically alive atmosphere, which may be felt even by those unacquainted with the occult. The wearing of robes and regalia, the playing of musical instruments, enhance the effect. However, if neighbours may wonder when they hear chanting, the clash of symbols, the eerie notes of the flute and the rattle of the sistrum, all that is needed is a quiet walk around the garden in everyday clothes. During this silent walk, thoughts are sent forth to bless plants and the earth. The procession then winds inwards to the hall door and so within to the shrine. So is the outer acknowledged and blended with the inner. After the Rite within the shrine, which brings through the Power needed for the good purpose of the ceremony, it is needful that the procession should return out-of-doors, preferably in a contrary spiral movement. This return is not to inhibit the Power, nor to dispense with the aid of those elemental and other Beings who have chosen to join in the ceremony. It is to disperse the power outwards so that it may radiate blessing to the whole neighbourhood and the surrounding plants, earth and streams."  (Olivia Robertson, "Dea: Rites and Mysteries of the Goddess")

Selene's Realm

Olivia Robertson wrote in the rite of "The Triple Moon":

'Let us make our voyage to the sphere of the full moon in our fair ship Luna. We sail through bright moonlight into Selene's spiritual realm. The moon in her beauty inspires the romantic dreams of poets and lovers, so that the humblest woman becomes a Goddess of eternal loveliness: a hump-backed man is transformed through love's eyes into a God. And this is no illusion, but the banishing of a false transient image. For ugliness, stupidity and cruelty are but distortions in our shadow world of the perfection that is our true being. Those who despise others are deluded by the passing play: wise are those who adore the ideal in their lovers.'

The Goddess Mago by Olivia Robertson.  She writes:  "Mago has red-gold hair like the sun and her body is made of white light and orange stars.. . Share with others.”   (Quote from the book "Athena, Arcadian Awakening")

Stars in the Star Chapel

Olivia Robertson writes in the book "Sophia":

"The scientific validity of astrology has no consequence in this form of intuitive awareness. It is spiritual discovery of our kinship with the stars. So perfect can this relationship be, that one realises that the Sages were true magicians of the psyche, and taught wisely concerning the influences of heavenly bodies. The music of the spheres brings radiations that affect the spirit within us. The tropical or sidereal forms of horoscope readings can refer to different but relevant types of relationship: the sidereal, with stellar influence: the tropical, with seasonal effects of the year. A horoscope may thus be seen as a psychic mandala given to us by our spiritual Guides as a useful map of our lives, understood through the symbolic language of the ancients. The actual appearance in the sky of constellations seen as ram and fishes, virgin and scales, are picture hieroglyphs used by Adepti on that mighty blackboard which is the moonless night sky! Thus the precession of the equinoxes is relevant, teaching us about the coming of a new era, described as a move from Pisces to Aquarius. Mathematics are essential for astronomy. Inspiration is all-important for reading star symbols. Each symbol can be a key that will open the door to an unknown realm! The Ankh is the opener of all doors: it is the Key of Life held by Isis, Daughter of Nuit."

Tiamat

"I offer incense to Thee, Tiamat, Thalassa of the primordial waters, the Abyss before creation was and from whom all beings are born. Through Thy magical transmutation, Chaos was changed to space and time, and evolutionary hierarchies rise and fall, born of Thee and through Rebirth return again to Thy Womb. The Gnostic Sages acknowledge Thee in the Diagram of the Ophites and see Thy turning Body as the Seven Circles of Archons, within Thy Omoroka, Mother of all existences. . . O Mother of the Gods, O Lady of mankind, Who maketh the green herb to spring up, Who created all things, Who guideth the whole of creation, O Tiamat with Thy Daughter Ishtar, O Thou whose side no God can approach, O exalted Lady whose command is might, a prayer will I utter. That which appears good unto Her, may She do unto us all: O My Lady, from the days of our youth upon this earth we have been much yoked to misfortune. Many have not eaten food and weeping is their nourishment. Water is denied to many; only tears are their drink. Our hearts never rejoice, nor are our spirits glad until all creatures share Thy Bounty and Thy Blessing."

New Year's Blessings

Lawrence Durdin-Robertson wrote in his book, "Juno Covella" under Dec. 31st:

"Hestia, Vesta. Ever-living flame of the hearth.
Life is eternal, and manifests - by rebirth through, the Mothers.
Fires and candles re-lighted from past flame.
Life renewal."
